Restoration

In 2004 and 2006 Narkomfin was on the World Monuments Fund Watch List of 100 most threatened buildings. The building has not once undergone capital repairs since its construc2tion and has been barely maintained. After the Second World War, the building underwent several serious changes: the ground floor was built in, the flat roof of the utilities block was built over, single storey additions were constructed on the site, a lift was put into the building and the internal layout of several apartments was altered.

Due to the absence of a controlling body monitoring the state of the building, or of the effect of the construction of other buildings nearby, Narkomfin is now in an advanced state of decay. However, the Narkomfin Foundation is determined to return the complex to its original state of efficiency and simple beauty.
