From Joerg Haspel, Head of the Department for Heritage Conservation in Berlin. Founder Member of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee for 20th Century Heritage

The Narkomfin-Building is a Heritage Site of outstanding European value. The Constructivist Narkomfin housing group in Moscow represents a key monument in Russian Avant-garde architecture. The communal house of Mojsei Ginzburg and Ignaty Milinis is a world-famous chef-d'oeuvre of the modern movement and stimulated the international pursuit of social housing reform in the 20th century. It is part of our common European heritage and worthy of nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage List. Its conservation and restoration is of common European interest and concerns all of us.

From John Stubbs, Vice President of the World Monuments Fund
"It is of great importance that the restoration of the Narkomfin Building be of the highest possible quality since perfect detailing was an important element of the building's original aesthetic. Given the terrible condition and awe inspiring importance of this building, restoring it properly will be a real exemplar for preserving significant early Modernism in Moscow and beyond.”

From Adam Wilkinson, Secretary of SAVE Europe’s Heritage

“Narkomfin is one of the most significant modernist buildings in Europe and SAVE salutes plans for a restoration project. It is a fantastic opportunity to tap on international experience of restoring modernist buildings. We offer our support and encouragement.”

From Europa Nostra

“The NARKOMFIN house is a key achievement of the Russian avant-garde. Necessary measures must therefore urgently be taken to ensure its preservation as part of Europe’s rich and diverse cultural heritage for present and future generations”.
